RESUMO

This work is part of an effort of comprehension of the recepetion, institucionalisation and consolidation, registred in the history of brazilian social sciences, specially in sociology, of the environment and society studies. For that, Gilberto Freyre s works in the 1930 s, specially "Nordeste" (1937), are the focus of this research in which is investigated how the themes nature and ecology were treated in Freyre s book, analysing the place that they took in the intelectual ambience of that period and their contributions to the environment and society studies in brazilian sociology
