RESUMO

This study presents the activities and technological tests carried through in stony residues of the so called "marble shops", aiming at to verify its application in the elaboration of Portland cement concrete. The first step was a research for attainment a panorama of the type and amount of stony residues produced by marble shops in São Paulo City, selected on base of the telephonic company home page, and the degree of reuse or recycling of such solid waste. Three marble shops had supplied the stony residues, generated in their routine works, necessary to the accomplishment of this study. This material was selected, classified, weighed and crushed, in laboratory conditions. The produced aggregate was submitted to various technological tests, currently used for the evaluation of the quality of rocks used in civil construction. Aiming at to direct the application of this aggregate, some simulations on the elaboration of concrete of Portland cement had been carried out. They contemplated variations in the composition of the coarse and fine aggregate and in the relation water/cement and mortar percentage. Independent of the characteristics of each simulation, the resulting concrete showed similar, around 35 MPa, compression resistances. These results indicated the good quality of the aggregate produced by crushing of stone residues of marble shops and demonstrated the possibility of its use in concrete production and its potentiality use on other applications in civil construction, not investigated here
