RESUMO

The objective of this work was to analyse the learning of fraction on fifih grade comparing two different methods of teaching. So, fifiy-eigth children that studied in this grade in a public school, during 1995 did a test about fractions before and afier studying them. Among the examples found in Campbell and Stanley (1979) it was chosen the delineation 10 (before and afier test with not aleatory groups). Twenty-one students became the experimental group working with this teaching method that was based in constructive principIes and It looked for some difficulties about fraction ideas and some elements in, Piaget, Inhelder and Szeminska (1948), that need be articulated to have the operative process of the idea. The other group of students worked with the conventional form. The results and its analyses showed that children submited to a different method had a better performance on test about fractions versus children that worked in the conventional form
