Aplicação de um modelo computacional tridimensional para estimativa de balanço hídrico em aterros sanitários

RESUMO
The evaluation of leachate generated in the sanitary landfills is one of the most critical and important elements during the design, construction and operation of these landfills. This dissertation aimed at evaluating the Computational Model MODUELO, for the hydrologic simulation of sanitary landfills. The model, which uses a tridimensional discretization of the landfill, allows, based on topographical, meteorological and waste characterization data, the estimation of the amount of leachate and gases produced. The model was applied in the simulation of the generated and accumulated leachate volumes in two areas of Belo Horizonte Waste Treatment Facility: Cell AC05, for a 72 months period, and the Experimental Landfill, for a 18 months period. Field capacity tests were also conducted in wastes compacted in different unity weights. In the Experimental Landfill, filled in a more controlled way, the simulated leachate volumes during the simulation period of 18 months presented a difference of 10,6% related to the measured values. The variation of the liquid volumes retained within the waste mass followed the precipitation variations. In Cell AC05, the simulated leachate volumes during the simulation period of 72 months represented 44% of the measured values. The difference observed is probably due to the amount of moisture retained within the waste cell that could not be used in the model calibration, due to the difficulties in quantifying it in field. The results confirmed that, although the MODUELO Model includes some detailed aspects, related to material properties and filling sequence, the assessment of landfill water balance already requires more investigation, mainly concerning the moisture accumulation within the waste mass. The field capacity tests indicated an increase of field capacity with the increase of initial waste density.
