RESUMO

The discussions about the environmental issues and the need for renewable sources of energy, with low environmental impacts, mainly about CO 2 emission, have encouraged the Wind Energy expansion. The support for wind energy in the last decades enabled the improvement of the technology and a representative share in the electrical systems of some countries. The growth of wind energy promote a discussion about power quality in electrical grids coupled to wind generators, mainly in the distributed generation context, where mid size generators are coupled in distribution systems with less power capacity therefore more sensitive about changes of quality issues. One factor that can impact the power quality in electrical grid is the voltage fluctuations that can be evaluated by the flicker level. Voltage fluctuations, in case of wind turbines connected to the electrical grids. The fixed speed wind generators are still frequently applied setup for distributed generation, due its low cost, robustness, simplicity and market availability. However, the voltage fluctuations provided by fixed speed wind turbines are much higher than the voltage fluctuations provided by variable speed wind turbines. Thus, the need of the study about impacts over voltage provided by fixed speed wind generators when coupled to electrical distribution grids. There are a lot of researches about flicker that applies simplified modeling for wind and wind turbine, however the simplified models dont consider important issues that impact the active power provided by the wind turbine and the consequently flicker emission. Thus, this dissertation brings a modeling, made by integration of specific codes for wind (TurbSim), wind turbine (FAST), induction generator and electrical grid (Simulink), so the results have the influence of all issues related to flicker emission. The results show that the short circuit rate and the impedance angle of the distribution line are determinant to the flicker level, the load and the reactive power compensation have also influence, albeit lower than the previous parameters. The average wind speed and the turbulence can have some contribution only to distribuition grids with specific short circuit impedance angles.
