RESUMO

Histomorphometric analysis and expression of epidermal growth factor receptor and proliferative cell nuclear antigen in hereditary gingival fibromatosis. Hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HOF) is an uncommon buccal disease, clinically characterized by a generalized and progressive enlargement of the gingiva. HistologicalIy, HOF shows an epithelium with long slender rete pegs that extend into a dense connective tissue that is rich in collagens fibers. The aim of the present study was to analyze the histomorphometric features and the immunohistochemistry expression of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EOFr) and proliferative cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in 10 samples of the HOF and 10 of normal gingiva (NO). The results from the histomorphometry demonstrated that the epithelial perimeter and thedeep of the epithelial rete pegs are significat1y higher in HOF when compared with NO (p
