RESUMO

The ever growing amount of Virtual Learning Environments â VLE â is favored by the increasing use of technology in several sectors of society and, above all, in view of the exponential expansion of Internet. The latter contributes more and more to make communication and information more powerful and disseminated. However, VLEsâ utilization for non-specialist users in computer science, with different abilities, backgrounds and ages demand more usable interfaces. Environments having little friendly interfaces cause dissatisfaction to users, and in extreme cases, may lead them to abandon the system. In spite of this, studies show that interfaces of such environments do not have the due attention by system designers and developers. In spite of this, studies show that interfaces of such environments do not have the due attention by system designers and developers. Moreover, the techniques of assessment of usability that have been used to analyze the interface of these environments are very general and therefore can not evaluate them properly. Therefore, the results become somewhat representative, and thus unable to contribute effectively to the improvement of usability of these environments. Thus, the objective of this work is to propose a set of best practices to build better VLEsâ in terms of usability and at the same time, allow that the same interface can be evaluated more appropriately by the use of recommendations compiled specifically for this type of environment.
