RESUMO

During the past two decades, the productive sector of bauxite-aluminum has undergone an important process of structural change, and has undoubtably become more competitive in the international arena. Brazil has become a major player in this field. Companies have increasingly searched for the optimal allocation of mineral resources and other inputs necessary for the three stages of primary aluminum production. As a result, the operations research techniques have become paramount in the cost optimization and in the use of other inputs in primary meta) production. In this context, this dissertation intends to demonstrate the potential of linear programming in minimizing transportation costs of a primary aluminum producer. A Network flow model which minimizes transportation costs has been developed for this purpose
