RESUMO

This study examines the impact of variables associated to the level of economic activity and population growth on the CO2 and PM10 emissions. It was used the Panel Analysis method by using a 4.242 data sample of 202 countries, from 1988 to 2008, obtained from the World Development Indicators (WDI) Report. Construction of an econometric model was used to support a multicriteria analysis. In an empirical approach it was used the equation of Kaya (Kaya Identity) to analyze the determinants of emissions of carbon dioxide (kt CO2) and energy intensity (PM10). This equation analyzes the impacts of population growth (popgrw), per capita income (gdppc), global energy consumption (fossilfuel) and energy use per unit of income (CO2 int) on the global pollution (measured by carbon emissions by unit of energy consumed) and energy intensity (PM10). Results have showed that all the independent variables popgrw, gdppc, fossilfuel end CO2 int keep positive and statistically significant relationships with the two dependent variables, kt CO2 and PM10.
