RESUMO

This work investigates the non-metallic inc1usions which are formed along the several stages of the industrial process of elaboration of the SAE 1015 steel, killed by aluminum, produced by continuous casting in the billets form, seeking a better understanding of the formation of inclusions with the objective of attaining a siderurgical product of better quality. Initially, a conventional metallographic method was used with the aid of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) connected to an energy-dispersive spectrometer system (EDS), determining: size, form, distribution and the elementary chemical composition of the inc1usions. In order to have the inc1usions more accurately characterized a method of separation of inc1usions from the ferritic matrix was developed, by using the dissolution of the metallic matrix in hydrochloric acid (HCl). A software which uses as input data the results ofthe elementary chemical composition of the inc1usions was developed, can supply in a simple and quick way, in a report form where the inclusions are represented in temary phase diagrams. This permits being obtained the constituents of such inc1usions to be determined, consisting on an useful tool which facilitates a better knowledge and control of inc1usions in siderurgical products. A thermodynamic and kinetic study of reactions of formation of inc1usions in steels was accomplished in order to determine conditions which favors the formation of a paticular type of inc1usion. After this study, a software is proposed, which permits the connection between a mathematical solidification model and a thermodynamic model, and it is able to predict the formation of inc1usions along the continuous casting of steel
