RESUMO

Among twenty-six thousands digestive endoscopies, we diagnosed gastric polyps in 153 patients. The aim of this study is a retrospective review gastric polyps, in this series, derived from gastric mucosal epithelium to analyze their histological classification, location, size, Yamada?s classification, histolological findings and treatment. The patients included had one or multiple gastric polyps, as confirmed by a histological examination. The polyps were classified as hiperplastic (HP), adenomatous (AP) and fundic gland polyps (FGP), based on the World Health Organization classification. Hiperplastic polyps were the most freqüent and accounted for 71,3% of the total, whereas FGP accounted for 16,3% of the cases and AP for 12,4%. Hiperplastic polyps and AP were primarily single, whereas FGP tended to be multiple. A carcinoma was detected in one HP (0,9%) and two AP (10,5%). Dysplatic foci were found in four AP (21%). We conclude that the gastric polyps are not freqüent lesions and the most patients are asymptomatic. The development of a carcinoma within a HP is rare while the chances in an AP is great. The HP and AP were primarily single, whereas FGP tended to be multiple. The endoscopic findings and clinical data alone were insufficient to distinguish the type of polyp before histological examination
