RESUMO

Considering man-space interaction as an interdisciplinary area proves a complex task because human acts produce different processes and phenomena in urban space. Thus, one perceives the importance of seeking of different approaches of for being, living and working in urban environments. Public places in which the relationship between man and environment happens daily present aspects of decadence or depreciation due in great part to urban expansion, specially when has followed an imported model of society and city in which individualized and segmented spaces have been built. Studies on environmental perception and of use public spaces already influenced by the intense rhythm of modernity need to promote a basis for space intervention that seeks to reestablish humanization and life values in the city. This research related to urban landscape analysis, involving the urban characteristics of Getúlio Vargas Avenue, in Patos de Minas, MG, intends guide future urban interventions for such avenues, focused on population needs. The environment perception study applied questionnaires three hundred people and executed mental maps for ten per cent of the interviewed people. The urban morphology study constructed inventory maps of building typologies, urban real estate vehicles flow and the relationship between public and private use. The landscape study inventoried trees found in the avenue (CAP ≥ 60 cm) and constructed shadow maps. The objective is to contribute to municipal projects to be implanted in such spaces and to their preservation, as a glade in the middle of concrete city buildings, providing higher life quality, not only for todays population but for the future generations as well.
