RESUMO

The processing of the acrylic resins used in the making of prosthesis bases involves dimensional alterations and distortions that can commit the adaptation quality and the occlusion positioning of the artificial teeth of the concluded prosthesis. Two aspects that can act decisively in these alterations are the methods of polymerization of the acrylic resin and the property of water sorption. This can be associated with the variables as pressure, temperature and time. This work investigated the correlation among the inclinations of the buccal-palatine peaks of the first superior molars on total prostheses made in resin acrylic termopolymerizable, when cured by the method of Phillips and through the heating by energy of microwaves, in function of the water sorption, under different temperature conditions and pressure. Therefore 60 superior total prostheses divided in 4 groups of 15 samples each that received the. following treatments: GI, cured on water bathing, and stored in water to 37::J: 2°C, the pressure set for 30 days; GIl, cured on water bathing, and stored in water to 60::J: 2 °C, 40 Pounds for 1 hour; GIII, cured on microwaves energy, and stored in water to 37 ::J: 2 °C, the pressure set for 30 days; GIV, cured on microwaves energy, and stored in water to 60 ::J: 2 °C, 40 Pounds for 1 hour. The obtained results were submitted to the test-t at the leveI of 5% of significance. It was ended that all the studied samples presented alteration in the inclination of the peaks after the water sorption. There were not statistically significant alterations in the positioning ofthe teeth in relation to cured varÚlble and in relation to variable water sorption. The alterations on teeth inclination happened randomly for each prosthesis, varying with relationship to the sense and movement degi-ee, independently of the cured type or of the method used in water sorption
