RESUMO

The Brazilian educational system, objective of several government models, reaches 11% of illiteracy in 2008 and this illiterate percentage of the population is greater than Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Bolivia and Jamaica. This fact may have been provoked by several elements such as political, technical or cultural ones, among others. The fact is that social exclusion directly affects the whole population and maybe even the development of the nation. The present study becomes necessary because it is important to know which elements may contribute to social education exclusion generated by systems for entrance into Federal Institutions of secondary teaching. This research seeks to show relevant data about the inclusion of an interview as part of the tool for student selection for Secondary Teaching school vocational courses at Federal Institutions of Agricultural education. The interview might be a reason for the exclusion of certain students with a real interest in working in the rural compound. The latter being the objective proposed by such technical qualifications For data collection, students from the Technical Farming and Agricultural Course concomitant with Secondary Teaching school, a modality at the Colégio Agrícola de Camboriú (CAC), were randomly chosen for sample periods in two years when the interview was included as part of the selection tool and another two years without the use of the same. This study observed that the interview in the selective process altered the list of approved students by over 40% and that more than 60% of these showed unsatisfactory results during the course, resulting in giving up or failing. Based on the data, it can be concluded that the inclusion of an interview in the selection process for entrance to the Farming and Agricultural Institutions at Secondary Teaching level deserves greater attention and should perhaps be revised.
