RESUMO

The study aimed to evaluate through clinical examination and electrocardiogram in dogs, the effects of aminophylline used by inhalation and intravenous. Twelve dogs were divided into two groups: group AE (endovenous aminophylline) received 10 mg/kg of aminophylline intravenously and group AI (inhalatory aminophylline) received aminophylline to inhaled through the nebulizer at a dose of 10 mg/kg, diluted in 5 ml of solution of sodium chloride 0.9%. We observed five times and are considered MC (control phase), with evaluation just prior to administration of the drug and M30, M2, M6, M8 with assessments by the 30 minutes, 2 hours, 6 hours and 8 hours respectively. We evaluated the rectal temperature (TR), heart rate (FC), respiratory rate (f), systolic blood pressure (PAS) and electrocardiogram (ECG). The average FC, f and TR remained in normal range for that species. However, some animals, both of the AE and AI group showed a slight increase in FC. There was an increase of f in some animals in group AE in M30 and M6. There was an increase in TR in both groups, mainly in AE. The mean PAS was below the reference values in group AE in M6 and M30 and M8 in group AI. Sinus tachycardia was observed in both groups, earlier in group AE. Concluded that aminophylline administered by intravenous and inhalation routes causes clinical and electrocardiographic changes in dogs, including increased FC, TR and f, decrease in PAS and the occurrence of arrhythmia.
