RESUMO

The concern with the care for disabled people is increasing in Brazil over the past 20 years, particularly after the promulgation of the Constitution of 1988. With the constitutionally guaranteed rights were emerging laws and governmental measures which amounted to civil society in promoting equal opportunities for disabled people in terms of access to education, health, work and leisure. Among these rights is access to leisure in tourism, which involves a set of adaptation measures to ensure access to safety and autonomy in whole or assisted by the public concerned. This work concerns the measures that a destination should take to become accessible to tourists with disabilities from the practical example of the City of Socorro - SP. We conducted a survey of how they are adapting to the accessibility some destinations outside of Brazil and the Brazilian public policy on accessibility to get a list of requirements to be met by a municipality to be considered accessible to tourists with disabilities. The example in Relief serves to illustrate the practice of a municipality that mobilizes to provide the necessary requirements to become accessible.
