RESUMO

The physical, social and environmental dimensions of relationships are dynamic, as individual react according to the environment, and the same environment modifies and influences the human acts. Cancer diagnostics and its treatment affects the social condition of the patient, its relatives and the community, due to its difficult early detection in the majority of the locations inside the human organism and symptoms expressed by the patient. So, the present study aims to analyze the psychological dynamics of a population directly exposed to an environmental crisis, with an high incidence rate of cancer since the 70Âs, basically associated with the drinking water. In order to kow, understand and investigate the environmental factors influence over the psychosocial life of this population, located at the districts of Almino Afonso, Frutuoso Gomes, LucrÃcia and Martins in the West region of the Rio Grande do Norte State, a qualitative and quantitative approach was used. It describes the daily life of the cities in the Brazilian northwest in its fullness, creating precious elements towards a better understanding of the relation between man and the environment. The results of this study strengths that health promotion based upon change of life style and habits, environment protection and improvement of public health remains the ultimate hope in the prevention and fight of cancer. The knowledge gathered in this work contributes to the improvement of the systematic intervention strategies offered by multidisciplinary teams in the environmental issue, contributing to a integrated action and aiming to the peopleÂs need
