The content was analyzed and categorized by means of the thematic analysis guided by Bardin, having for base estimated of Moscovici on interpersonal ability and the theory of Travelbee on the relation person-the-person. The results of the interview had pointed that the perceptions of the nurses concerning the interpersonal ability had been based on the ability of interaction with the patient and on the establishment of an effective interpersonal relationship, what it confirms with the theoretical proposals concerning the thematic one in question. Still they had characterized the interpersonal relationships as forms of efficient relationship with the patients, beyond these relationships to present elements that facilitate and limitors for its achievement. As elements that facilitate they had mentioned the confidence, the respect, the interest, the understanding, the communication, the break-even and the scientific knowledge; and as limiter the inadequate conditions of work, the imperfections in the comunicative process, the resistance of the patient to the changes and the lack of professional preparation. Already in the made comments, the instrumental paper of the professional was evident, while subjective questions more distant and, the pursuing of a routine of work centered strong in the task, were next to relationary/take care of quotidiano of these professionals. Thus, with I look it to develop the interpersonal ability in the nurses that they take care of people with diabetes, is important and necessary to fill the gaps of information, knowledge and reflection of them, as well as its implications for the personal, professional context and for the patient, and of the necessary resources for its mobilization.
