RESUMO

The subject of this thesis is the relationship among hermeneutics, nihilism and religion in the thought of the Italian philosopher Gianni Vattimo. Starting from Nietzsche and Heidegger positions, Vattimo affirms that the overcoming of Metaphysics has resulted in nihilism. This term bears three meanings: (1) Everything is interpretation. (2) This affirmation is already interpretation, because being is not considered structure but event, rejecting the affirmation of any originating thing at all. (3) Nihilism is, then, the destiny of the history of Being and disrupts the strength of metaphysical structures turning it weak. These three aspects create hermeneutics and are created by it. The vocation of hermeneutics and the history of being to the weakness of Metaphysics are closely related to the Christian conception of the emptying of God. Following from this, according to Vattimo, Christianity is the nihilist element acting inside of Metaphysics.(AU)
