RESUMO

The purpose of the present study is to study the public centers of access to the Internet in Brazil. The methodology consists of identifying, as an example, the territoriality of the public centers of access to the Internet in Duque de Caxias, a town in Rio de Janeiro. The main aims of this work are to understand how the public centers of access to the Internet are devised, as well as their profile and also their spatiality in the spatial cut out. The concept frame was based on a Literature Review that included works of geographers, as well as common areas, such as sociology and pedagogy. The treatment of formal data, both from private and public entities, clarify the spatial cut out and the methodology. The fieldwork contributed to glimmer the territoriality of public centers of access to the Internet, on a district size, allowing the appearance of proposals about the territorial web of the public policies of digital inclusion in the town where the research is carried out. This research concludes the public centers of access o the internet are one of the main points of digital inclusion for most of the population from low income, and also that the action of the territory of Lan Houses and Cybercafés (where the access is paid) is still present, even with the presence of Telecentros (centers of free access).
