RESUMO

The general objective of this work is to analyze the dynamics of the reciprocal implications between technology and health, with emphasis in the Brazilian health system. For this purpose, an historical overview of the health system is made and the main agents of this system are identified and studied: the doctors, the pharmaceutical industry, the health care equipment industry, the health insurance companies, the government, the hospitals and the users. The technological advances in health care are then studied and one observes that, in this case, as the technology advances, its prices increase, as opposed to what occurs in other areas. In this dissertation, the health system is described as a production system. A linear programming allocation model is presented to describe the technology choice behavior. During this work a database was also constructed based on information extracted from the Sistema de Cadastro Nacional de Estabelecimentos de SaÃde - SCNES (System of National Register of Health Establishments), powered by the Department of Informatics of the Sistema Ãnico de SaÃde (Unified Health System) - DATASUS. The data extracted concern the health establishments registered in cadastre from the states of CearÃ, GoiÃs, ParÃ, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul and SÃo Paulo in the months from August to December of 2005 and from January to June of 2006. The data gathered were further analysed
