RESUMO

The interest for this research is guided on the questions appeared in the psychoanalytic clinic, starting from the attendance of Premenstrual Tension Syndrome (PMTS) patients victims and their symptomatic manifestations, not only physics, but predominantly psychic. Although it is considered by the medicine as a resulting disease of the organic and hormonal alterations associated to the feminine reproducer cycle, the psychoanalytic analysis reveals the existence of particularly intimate and complex relationships between the menstruation and the psychic elaboration of the feminine position, as well as an evident association of the symptoms told by patients with PMTS and the personal conflicts lived by them, related their own sexuality. With the objective of to investigate the relationships between the psychic experience of the corporal processes associated to the menstrual cycle and the subjective elaboration of the feminine position, a psychoanalytic analysis of the premenstrual symptoms was developed, starting from medical definitions and cultural significances about the feminine sexuality. The revision of the medicalliterature on PMTS revealed that the symptomatic manifestations emerge such as enigma under several aspects, always appearing associated to factors of emotional order. Through the analysis of the feminine significances relating to myth, to religion and science, the symbolic support function of the menstruation was revealed in relation to the cultural representation of the feminine sexuality, whose different approaches, through the time, appear as effect of successive significant articulations. So much the cultural conceptions, as the patients speeches of their symptoms, reveal a perception of the femininity such as enigma, whose unconscious manifestation appears associated to the femininereproducer cycle. This enigmatic condition was interpreted inside of the psychoanalytic theory, as a result of the impossibility of feminine body symbolization, due to an absence of the significant of the femininity, that forces the woman to search for a possible symbolization, through maternity. Nevertheless, this symbolic resolution by maternity, just makes possible a partial elaboration of the feminine castration, whose access depends of the particular conditions of body symbolization for each woman. So, it was reached the conclusion that the symptoms of PMTS appear as a psychic exacerbation, unchained by the organic existence of corporal processes related to procreation, due to the difficulty of symbolization of feminine sexuality, through maternity
