A relação entre investigação científica e intervenção social na experiência da Unitrabalho (1994-2000)

RESUMO

The central subject of the thesis is the relation between scientific inquiry and the social intervention in the experience of the Inter University Net of Studies and Researches about Work - UNITRABALHO. In the decade of90, a group of directors ofBrazilian universities, moved for desire to brighten up what they had called debt of the university to the workers, carried through a series of meetings, some of them with the participation of workers related to labor unions, to Central Única dos Trabalhadores (Only Center of Workers) and to Força Sindical (Syndical Force). These reflections, associated to some university experiences of effective relationship with workers, resulted, in 1994, in the institution of Inter University Net of Studies and Researches about Work - UNITRABALHO. Distinguishes among the objectives of the Net the development of tools that allow the improvement of the relation university-society, the accomplishment of studies and programs of formation about work, as well as the development of cooperation with the syndicate organizations and other organizations of workers. The first years are marked by the implantation of local nucleus, for development of the first programs of action and for the adhesion of universities. In 1999, the UNITRABALHO congregated 78 institutions of superior education and developed one set of programs that concentrate in interests and necessities of the workers. This research is centered in two of them: Mapa de Produção Acadêmica no Brasil sobre estudos relacionados ao trabalho (Map of the Academic Production in Brazil on studies related to work) and Incubadoras Tecnológicas de Cooperativas Populares (Technological incubadoras of Popular Cooperatives) guided for the creation of work and income, in a world-wide and Brazilian context of structural unemployment, informal and precarious work. The Map of the Academic Production searchs to articulate what already it is produced by hundreds of researchers in the diverge universities, making this knowledge available to the workers. However, the Incubadoras make possible the effective envolvement of academics e workers in the construction of an alternative of work and income, establishing one position ahead of the hegemony of the neoliberal capitalism, that imposes the unemployment as a cruel form of social exclusion for millions integrants of the population economically active. The joint ofuniversity in net, the availableness ofknowledge to workers, the effective envolvement of academics and workers to develop paid work inside the cooperatives and the critical position before social consequences of the current cycle of capitalism hegemony compose important characteristics of the developed university extension in the scope of UNITRABALHO. Using as foundation the observation of this concrete experience of university extension, narrowly linked to the production and transmission of the knowledge, the thesis discourses on social function of the university, as long as a social institution in charge of technological development, but also of the formation, reflection, creation and criticism that subsidize the development of a local and world-wide society that values the life in all its manifestations
