RESUMO

In this work are diseussed some propositions regarding theend of labor centrality in modem capitalism through the analysis of the writings of two main supporters of this stream: Adam Sehaff and Andre Gorz. These authors defend that, due to the teehnological improvements along the past decades, the historical working elass produetion and, therefore, working elass itself would be destined to disappear. Thus, the working class would be inept to demand the possession of the means of produetion through the positive defeat of capitalism. From the marxian and marxist literature about the labor theory of value were reeovered the necessary elements to deny aforementioned authors assertions on this subjeet, specially for the case of developed eountries. Based on a eolleetion of data, mainly trom ILO, it was also studied the evolution of the workday, workers population, workload, as well as produetivity, in order to understand the true situation of the working elass in the last quarter of XX century. From this data it was evidenced that labor, instead of vanishing as insistently asserted by the defenders of the end of labor centrality theory, is nowadays in a expanding process, being performed under the more diverse forms of inseeuritization. This faet corroborates the significance of labor in the modem capitalism by its fundamental role in the capitalist wealth creation process
