RESUMO

The existence of Information Retrieval characteristics in users collaboration on the Web research is investigated as a mean to propose new developments to the field. Information Retrieval and systems definitions are reviewed and contextualized with the greater value given to information in current society, characterized by the emergence of Information and Communication Technologies, especially the Internet and the Web. Topics representing Information Retrieval objectives and concerns are defined in order to analyze articles retrieved from the Web of Science database, indexed with Web, user, and collaboration as keywords, and published in the last five years in previously selected fields approaching users collaboration on the Web research. Articles relevant to the study scope and with accessible content were examined, finding that all presented characteristics that classified them as of interest to Information Retrieval. The application and potential use of other topics related to Information Retrieval in the articles analyzed and in new research are discussed. Possible sources of interest and innovation for investigations in the field, not previously identified as traditional characteristics, are indicated based on the description of users collaboration on the Web initiatives in the articles analyzed.
