A química em instituições secundárias e superior: Araraquara nas primeiras décadas do século XX

RESUMO

In the first decades of the 20th century we had significant changes concerning the social economic politics the country was going through. Coffee expansiveness, mostly in the State of São Paulo, played an important role in the development of Brazil by diversifiying the economical activities and fostering conditions for the different kinds of service, trade, banks, the early craftsmanship and factories to reflect the new production relationships. Along with all these changes Chemistry set up to delimit its own space together with Agriculture by creating the Estação Central de Quimica Agricola in 1915 and a Centro de Pesquisas Cientificas de Quimica Agricola, in 1918. We have chosen for our research three high school institutions: Associação da Escola Mackenzie de Araraquara, Colégio Progresso de Araraquara, Escola Nacional de Comércio de Araraquara. As for a college institution we have selected the Escola de Farmácia e Odontologia de Araraquara. The investigation into the teaching of Chemistry at the high school and college institutions is important in considering the contribution of the mentioned science to the process of modernization that the country was going through and also in trying to understand by which means Araraquara was inserted in the national scenery for that matter
