RESUMO

The study analyzed the recent educational policies on Teachers Preparation Programs, especially those directed to the Primary School, approved after the National Education Directions and Bases Law, of 1996. Is presented a short review of the teachers preparation history in Brazil, where appears the ambiguities of the Pedagogy Course, since it was created until our days. Several propositions are presented regarding this course, which suggest a struggle of power for the locus to train the teacher, as well as the strategies to identify the proper model for his preparation. Is underlined the process of construction of the educational professional identity and the teaching as the base for his preparation. The study emphasizes the proposal presented by the National Educational Council (CNE), in 2005, for the Pedagogy Course and the discussions it promoted among the teachers representative entities. Interviews with coordinators, teachers and students of a Pedagogy Course were undertaken in order to understand the reasons of lack of success of the Teachers Preparation Program, at College level, and the difficulties to improve the National Curricula Directions for the Pedagogy Course. In the interviews it was also asked if the competencies and abilities of the students correspond to those considered necessary to an outcome of a Pedagogy Course. By the answers given, there is not such a correspondence, being reasonable to conclude that the teacherâs preparation program needs new and urgent adjustments.
