RESUMO

The main objective of this paper is to reflect upon the conecpt of paraphasia. In addition to that, there is also a commitment to making a concise incursion into the history of medical aphasiology, as well as aphasiologic linguistics, in order to bring to mind facts that, although not widel y known, still determine the focus of studies on paraphasia and aphasia. We intend to measure how parallel paraphasia is in relation to possible target-words and, in doing so, establish linguistically determined criteria, which bring it closer to non-aphasic speech, providing support for its qualification into phonological or lexical paraphasia. However, the qualification of paraphasic manifestations is not always undisputable, and the interpretative limits border two other correlated concepts, which will be incorporated into our consideration, namely lapse (slip of the tongue) and jargon. In addition to paraphasia and correlated concepts, other phenomena which accompany and/or trigger it, such as attitude of pursuit, attitude of retrieval, epiliguistic attitude and TOT state, will also be included in the discussion whenever apropriate. And, finally, the theoretical backbone, which guides and stimulates the considerations presented, is derived from the ideas of Jakobson (1969 [1941]), (1999 [1969]); by an enunciativediscursive approach proposed by Coudry (1988, 2002); from Ingram (1976, 1996); Teixeira (1985, 1991) and Rapp (1994)
