RESUMO
Considering one of the best bahian painters of the colonial period, Antonio Joaquim Franco Velasco was Born in 1780, in Salvador, and died in the same city,in the 19th century, is painting author that decorates Nosso Senhor do Bonfim,Ordem Terceira de São Francisco and Santíssimo Sacramento e SantanaChurches. In this work, he searched himself, to achieve an iconographic analysis of paintings of the lining in the nave and of six lateral retables, realized in bonfim Church, where six Passos da Via-Sacra were represented, in the altars, and traditional scenes of Christian Iconography and popular devotion in the ceilig. This inquiry was developed through the systematic observation of the mentioned workmanships, resorting to Bible and the hagiography, as main sources of explanation of the images. It was realized a survey of his particular and professional life to attend better the especificity of Franco Velascos workmanship,in the public and particular archives, as well as in others paintings of easel and Churches of his autorship.
