RESUMO

This research tackle about the cultural identity of the student in oral activities of the elementary school. The aim is to, through an analytical-critical thinking process, check the reasons which led (and lead yet) to under-use of orality in the classroom, a fact that has negatively affects on the mother-tongue teaching. The survey also revealed that both in science (the study of languages) and in the legal field (Law of Directives and Bases of Education) subsidies are more than enough to defend a language pedagogy that considers orality as the beginning and end ; without forget the importance of learning to write with a view to expanding the cultural capital of the student. The speech of individuals is not merely transmitting information, but a form of subjectivity, of cognition, a form of action. The different forms of speech are both to improve the communicative efficacy, and to mark the identity. That way, work with linguistic variation is the same as working with identity, and vice versa.
