RESUMO

The purpose of this research is to reflect on news in participative web journalism, which allows involving the public in its collecting, creation, analysis and distribution process. Assuming that the public tries to (re)produce pictures, images and texts from the conventional media, when they send their contribution to a participative journalism website, introjecting in the news production characteristics that are similar to those found in the mass media, it is observed in which way the referred public contributes journalistic making. The conceptual bases of this recent phenomenon are still being built, but already denote the importance of the popular participation in the construction of a fact. The core of this matter is in verifying what the public understands by news and how their participation in sending the news material happens. Intending to answer these questions, news published on the web channel Vc no G1, from the Portal Globo, were selected for analysis. The methodology used to perform this investigation is organized in two levels of study. The first consists on the methodological theoretical research founded in several authors who investigate participative journalism, such as Alex Primo, Axel Bruns, Claudia Quadros, Dan Gillmor and Marcos Palacios. The second applied theoretical reflections to the content analysis of the object of study, collected over 30 days (november 2008), totalizing a corpus of 91 news. With the purpose to investigate the profile of the reporter-citizen (gender and origin of the collaborator) and map their collaborative productions (newsworthiness criteria, text size, link inclusion, pictures, audio and videos), the quantitative exam was materialized. Parallelly, the quantitative analysis was done with the purpose to interpret the data. Finally, after reviewing the main studied aspects along this dissertation, the final considerations were built.
