RESUMO

This thesis shows a case study in a Brazilian petrochemical company which is involved on a culture change process due to a companys merger and acquisitions context. On this scenary, it investigates the person`s perception about the influence of a strong and predominant culture to the cultural change. In order to collect the data, a survey on the employees perception have been used, in a qualitative and quantitative study, performed through a questionnaire applied in a representative sample of employees who directly experienced the cultural change process in the current case study. The data analysis shows that a predominant and strong culture really contribute to a culture change in companys merger process. It was also possible to indentify by the qualitative analysis that this influence is positive. The results were compared with existing studies in the literature and previous researches realized in the corporative environment. It was also broached the influence of physical ambience changes in the cultural change. In a managerial point of view, the results of the study showed that the existence of a strong and predominant culture and its effective practice are mandatory conditions to manage the cultural change process strategy. Their presence however does not guarantee the success in the process. The exercise of a proper leadership reinforced by this culture`s value and principles practice are critical to achieve this strategy.
