RESUMO

The main aim of this study is to analyze the influences of technical and institutional determinants on transformations of the Sociedade Teatral de Fazenda Nova - STFN, during the remarkable periods of its history, on the spectacle of PaixÃo de Cristo de Nova JerusalÃm. Using the concept of field, developed within the institutional approach, this work analyses the trajectory of the organization responsible for the event. This study encompass the period since before its formalization at 1951 all the way until 2004, approaching the roles played by important organizational actors which held significant environmental relationships through the period or influenced the organization. It was possible to detach public organizations as well as organizations from the theatrical and tourism field in Pernambuco and private groups which support or sponsorship the spectacle for visibility. This is a case study that utilized direct observations, bibliographical review and interviews to understand the changes occurred in the organizational environment and internal aspects of STFN. The results shows transformations occurred related to financial issues, origin of spectators, infrastructure available, format of spectacle, number and nature of the organizational actors, forms of publicity and interorganizational relationships at the field, showing changes in the spectacle reference context, from limited to its local reality, becoming more interactive with a larger context of interorganizational relationships at national patterns
