A motivação do aluno no ensino superior : um estudo exploratório

RESUMO
By generating direct implications on the quality of the students development with education, motivation has been being widely discussed into the academic context. The present paper has investigated the motivation of higher education students and the factors related to it. Among them, it could be verified variants of personal characterization, the students conceptions regarding the course, the intention to conclude studies and act in the major area, the alleged performance and perception on the students efforts. The participants have been selected through convenience samples gathering 1.269 students of public and private institutions from diverse regions of the country. The data was obtained through a self-report questionnaire with Likert scaling questions and analyzed according to the self-determination theory. For the instruments analysis, an exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach s alpha, regression and correlation analysis have been accomplished. Among the main results it could be featured that: the assessment scales of motivation and effort present evidences of validity; students obtained higher scores on the most autonomous types of motivation; the variant effort has been trisected into three concepts: study, avoidance and frequency; on the motivation assessment to conclude the studies, act in the major area and performance throughout the course, most of the participants expressed involvement with the activities and strong internal regulation of actions; students valorize courses which promote personal growth and contribute to technical qualification; women and older students present more autonomous levels of motivation; just graduated students presented lower scores on the most autonomous levels of motivation; students participating into projects presented more autonomous types of motivation. Results have been discussed aiming contribution to the comprehension of the students motivational patterns and their educational implications to the reality of higher education.
