RESUMO
Since initial research in folk communication has taken off, this area of study has evolved continuously with the advent of new elements of investigation adding to its rapid development. The Internet is changing the way people communicate and live. At the core of these changes, folk communication - which surpasses mass communication for having its roots embedded in folklore is gaining new ground with the evolution of informational technology. The main question this essay raises are how exactly the Internet has influenced the thought of folk communication. Therefore, this paper intends to shine light on questions such as: Who are the new folk communicational leaders?; How does mass media influence the content of the folk message on the Internet?; Has the folk message over the Internet had to adapt to the medium?; Can one find manifestations geared toward every folk audience on the Internet?; How do audiences receive the content of such communication?. To answer these questions, the author has relied on concepts created by Luiz Beltrao, as well as newer additions by Jose Marques de Melo, Joseph Luyten, Cristina Schmidt, Osvaldo Meira Trigueiro, among others. The results obtained herein conclude that research conducted on the field of communication on the virtual medium of the Internet follows a close pattern compared to manifestation found in other media, whilst showing temporal and special innovations.(AU)
