RESUMO

This study presents a descriptive analysis of a set of texts collected in the Baiana orality on a field research by the Programa de Estudo e Pesquisa da Literatura Popular (Program of Study and Research of the Popular Literature). Considering that the oral narratives are mechanisms producer of cultural identity of groups that use them as a strategy of invention and maintenance of beliefs and cultural practices, this study analyzes a corpus constituted by narratives of the São Pedro and Jesus cycle, from the religious principles and the norms of behavior which are conveyed by them as well as how these aspects reflect upon the narrative construction.
