RESUMO

The current research was developed by the analysis and evaluation of two educational softwares ( The Magic Glasses and The Azar Interactive ), with the aim of showing language teachers the necessity and the utility of judging with defined criteria these and other similar materials, in order to perceive the methodological theories implicit in them and the navigability conditions of those computer programs. The idea of this investigation also comes from the interest of this researcher to make language learning and teaching a real demonstration of the new idiom use through virtuality (the software contents). The fundamental proposal of this research is to learn and teach the practice of defining criteria and techniques for a judgmental procedure of this kind of technological tool to be used in a language class. To give ground to this investigation, we took the support of the theoretical foundations established by the linguist Carol Chapelle, a language specialist and researcher of educational technology for second language learning, and, the parameters established by Wepner &Ray, researchers of apprenticeship through informatics, which contains general characteristics to be considered for the selection of a software for classroom use. With this investigation, we aim to offer ideas and reflections to enrich the debate about the rational use of educational technology, specifically in the segment of educational softwares, in the universe of language teaching.
