RESUMO

This study addresses the issue of urban climate. It is based on the assumption that vegetation may act to improve the microclimate conditions of cities, by reducing the temperature of the air, which is very important in warm climates. Aims to investigate the influence of vegetation on urban climate in Palmas, capital of the province of Tocantins. It was based on the method adopted in the theory of Monteiro (1976) - Urban Climate System - thermodynamic and was inspired by of Monteiro e Mendonça (2003). Was obtained the data analyzed by field collection performed at a fraction of urban, representing the joint morphological characteristic of the city, on the use and occupation of land, density, sidewalks and vegetation. The information was gathered by means of measurements of air temperature at points along a transect mobile. The first results showed variations of up to 8 C, in different parts of the city. Information on air temperature specialize in cartograms isotherms, using a tool of Geographic Information System (GIS), and was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and variance. It was found that the presence of vegetation influenced by changing the expected results, related to the values of temperature, to determine the Comfort favorable microclimates in urban object of study. This provides some indication of the positive impact of urban vegetation in improving the microclimate, especially in reducing the heat, in hot climate cities. In this context, the measurement results indicate the need to highlight the value of green areas and its influence in determining the urban microclimate in the form of soothing element of the thermal effects caused by urbanization. From this, we suggest guidelines for subsidies to the adequacy of urban projects existing or future, especially when the importance of vegetation, so that it contributes to the improvement of urban environmental conditions and thus provide quality life, both its people and its visitors, given the research has found evidence of the presence of islands of freshness in urban spaces that had large mass of vegetation.
