RESUMO

For some time, knowledge has been conquering space and becoming a valuable resource in peoples lives and, particularly, in the survival of organizations. However, having knowledge, on its own, does not result in greater competitiveness for a company. It is when knowledge is combined with its management and sharing that it becomes a competitive advantage. In theory, adopting management and sharing practices is justifiable, for it yields greater competitiveness for organizations and generates new knowledge. Nonetheless, the success of such practices will depend on values rooted in the organizations history, its policies, beliefs, truths, customs and mission. It is in this sense that organizational culture surfaces as an indispensable element, favoring or inhibiting knowledge management and sharing practices. As such, this paper aims to understand how organizational culture influences the sharing of knowledge, through a case study carried out in a multinational telecom unit, which in order to adapt to the knowledge management and sharing model, it invested solely in information technology. The results of this study reveal that the company centered efforts only on technological aspects, having forgotten to value organizational culture and, consequently, the sharing of knowledge
