RESUMO

This research sought to analyze the influence of Brazilian culture on the organizational culture of Higher Education institutions (HEI); it aimed to map the characteristics of the national culture that exert influence on HEI organizational culture, emphasizing the influence local cultural standard and their formalism. It substantiated his theoretical yardstick on Gilberto Freyres social thought, Guerreiro Ramos Brazilian management characteristics, Hofstedes culture modes and Eugenio Enriquez &Maria Ester Freitas`s symbolism. The research used a case study method, with descriptive and qualitative basis, focal interviews techniques, structured questionnaire, and Bardins content analysis as techniques of verification and demonstration of the achieved results. The objectives were achieved. The research identified a strong influence of the Brazilian culture on the organizational culture of the HEI analyzed. The characteristics of the local cultural standards (patrimonialism) and of the formalism were shown up like characteristics of the organizational culture of the HEI. I also has shown up that the HEI organizational culture possesses a symbolic element of seduction and subordination of individuals in a trap of his yearnings for survival.
