RESUMO

This research tries to investigate the social meaning of Maria s image representation to the Catholic women life from Campinas. The Catholic Carismatic Renovation is a movement of laymen that occurs in the own catholicism and that approaches in some aspects of pentecostalism when emphasize the possibility of the followers to get spiritual powers. With the secularization process, Maria s image, as well a sits source, the Catholic Church, has being loosing space to the lay speeches. In this context, the reviewed Maria s image producted by the charismatic ones searchs to be a proposal altemative in way to other speeches that try to guide practical social of men and women in modem world. This study, through the religion sociology and gender try to analyze the results caused by the paradigmatic Maria s behavior examples to the catholic women life. Despite the figure of Maria as virgin-wife-mother to be predominant between the charismatic catholics, another "Marias" leave reveal themselves and they mix themselves between the followers: ours Lady of Aparecida (black mOther, patroness of Brazil), "iemanjizada" Maria (beautiful, attractive and fascinating), the liberating Maria (bold and courageous) disclosing, of this form that the Maria s image is not a representation total finished or defined, being in a process that still was not exhausted
