RESUMO

Aggregate production in Brazil is growing along the years to supply the great demand of the largest Brazilian cities, due to the diversity of constructions and the development of the country. The production of crushed rock in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas, one of the largest urban agglomerates of the State of São Paulo, gets the attention for the diversity of rocks that have been quarried and the range of applications. This dissertation analyzes the market of aggregates in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas-RMC, approaching geological, technological, social and economical aspects. The work tries to trace parameters to verify if the current structure of production of aggregates in the RMC is enough supply its market. The research reveals that, although sufficient, this production is not totally destined to RMC. It has been verified also that the quarries have been located far from the great consuming centers, the increase of the price of the product, the increase of the production cost in relation to the transport and the buyer s bargain power in this market
