RESUMO
This thesis has as its main objective the analysis of images related to the principal official celebrations of the Estado Novo: April 19t (Presidente Getúlio Vargass birthday), May 1st, September 7th, and November 10th (anniversary of the establishment of the Estado Novo), as propagated by the Cine-Jornal Brasileiro. The celebrations on these four different occasions, with emphasis on May 1st, were key events in the communication between Presidente Getúlio Vargas and society. The ceremonies mutually reinforced each other and created a schedule of noteworthy events, contributing to the formation of a mythology of the Estado Novo, of its accomplishments, and of the presidente himself.
