RESUMO

The communitarian radios arise from social movements in the ield of communication in the 70s, as an alternative proposal to the traditional media and in the fight for democratic public spheres of word diffusion and construction of the citizenship. Journalism can enhance these spheres by providing news that are committed to the citizens interests. Nowadays, in a neoliberal context, these broadcast stations start to have different configurations from their initial shape, being able to resemble to the local traditional radios and have a religious and political character, or to build specific models of journalism with a view to put the community in way for its development. This work intended to examine how the journalism in the communitarian radios really work. For that purpose, the routines of news production, professional culture and organization estructure of two communitarian broadcasters have been observed, one in the city of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, located in Pernambuco, Calheta FM, and the other one in Paranoá, which lies in Distrito Federal, Paranoá FM. It was concluded that both perform a specific journalism, of communitarian matrix, in the case of Calheta FM, or service, in Paranoá FM. In Cabos broadcasters the community takes part in the gathering, election, edition and emission of information as citizen-asset, and the citizenship is the main criteria in choosing news intending to politicize populations. In the Paranoá, the community has space for argument and critical, mainly to the local government, but sees to radio as a service.
