RESUMO

From the concept of resilience with the evolutive, active universal human capability to overcoming life s adversities and some times being stregthened by them, this work had the aim of identifyíng the characteristics self pointed by elderly jews who survived the Holocaust, that would help us to understand the personal resources used for such, inventoryingand categorizing them. Thus, fram the analysis of the interviews of residents in Jewish community nome for old people in São Paulo, Brazil and books of world wide outstanding marks for the research development: non-structured interviews, characteristics determination and their categorization. Analyzing the testimonies and the books it was possible to show that in four sources the characteristics are supported: the constitutional, the relational, situational and personal beliefs, which are linked and accommodated in a integrated way. Even though such sources would be integrated among themselves, some characteristics were emphasized: health, hope, faith, social support, humor, autonomy, self-determination, adaptability,and communicative capability. Such findingscan be of relevance for the establishmentof prajects in the social sciences, building the citizenship and in the health sciences, edifying the capacity of enduring and or overcoming the inevitable
