A dimensão ético-afetiva dos discursos sobre a violência: implicações para o processo de convivência social

RESUMO

The goal of this thesis was to analyze the ethic-affective dimension of discourses about violence in Brazilian society, using the conception of someone other as reference to those discourses. Brazilian society has dealt with the consequences of a perverse economic system that produced and sustains deep social inequalities amongst the population. Those inequalities are associated with the authoritative and conservative behaviors of the government. In this fertile soil various social conflicts of diverse natures are aggravated and produce different explanations and a search for solutions. Violence - especially the one associated with criminality - has attained and ever growing space within the social factors to which the majority of the population turns to, especially in large urban centers. Associated with corruption and disbelief in the political and judiciary institutions is the constitution of a culture of violence . This culture, characterized by the use of force in conflict resolution, is sustained and strengthened by particular moral systems which are irreducible to common ideals. Violence, at the same time, has been constructed as a spectacle, thus highlighting its dramatic character and adding to the shadowing the phenomenon, adding to its mythical quality. The research was carried out by proposing a debate on the question of violence between two groups. Those two groups were made up of Sao Paulo s middle class society, differenciated by the type of activity they are engaged in: intellectualized e non-intellectualized. The analysis of the resulting discourses dealt dialectically with cognitive, affective, and ethic dimensions present in the way in which individuals responded to the proposed topic. The results indicate that emotional and moral basis on which the significance of the social object violence is built are fundamental to the comprehension of the different views taken in relation to the origin, attribution of responsabilities, and to the alternatives to lessening and/or solution of this violence
