RESUMO

The Present research is inserted in the context of the policy of Social Welfare, mainly in the context of actions facing the commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents. It demarcates the performance of social workers and psychologists who work directly with the counselling of children and adolescents inserted in commercial sexual exploitation. Its general objective is the one of understanding the discourse of such professionals concerning the relations between men and women based on how previous research show the setup of commercial sexual exploitation. Research and debate usually classify the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents especially the exploitation of girls as violence, and, in general, it is said that girls are usually the victims of sexual exploitation whereas men are pointed out as the main exploiters. Aiming an effective understanding of the present research, the concept of gender is defined as the main category of this work due to the focus it has on the relational and social aspects of the perception of relations between men and women. The methodology implied to achieve the proposed objectives is eminently qualitative. In addition to the bibliographic research, documental and field research were also carried. Nine professionals took part in the field research out of which some work in Fortaleza as well as in 7 towns of its metropolitan area (Aquiraz, Caucaia, Eusébio, Horizonte, Itaitinga, Maracanaú, and São Gonçalo do Amarante). Concerning the results obtained, the research revealed a limited and restricted discourse in the cultural and symbolic dimensions which are necessary to understand sexual commercial exploitation thoroughly. The results also confirm the hypothesis that the discourse of such professionals about the relations between men and women is based on stereotypes about male and female which have been historically built and reinforced in a society which treats such stereotyped differences as natural.
