RESUMO

The activity groups are one of the most widely employed resources in occupational therapy. Creating groups and constructing their internal representation is a complex process to psychotic patients due to the psychic organization of the psychosis itself. This thesis describes and analyses the constitution of an activity group with psychotic patients and checks over how different types of occupational therapy technical management interfere with the creation of a group itself. We could realize that the group expressed, in several non-linear occasions, the following characteristics: (i) it functioned as a "resounding box" in that throughout work, associations between the topics and the activities conducted by several patients emerged; (ii) it became a Potential Space, which is a factor we could detect and infer in some situations, owing to the emotional involvement of the patients when carrying out the activities; (iii) it achieved autonomy and became capable of functioning like a group, with very little intervention from the coordinator. Based on these three elements, we concluded that the group could be formed successfully and that occupational therapy technical management could make this process easier. Amongst the management procedures, this paper points out not only the importance of conducting activities in a group context, but also focuses on the associations of elements that emerge in that context and on the relevance of the creativity topic. Additionally, it addresses the difficulties found throughout the process of constituted the group and the importance both to preserve the setting and the therapist s eagerness.
