RESUMO

The aim of the present dissertation is to analyse the piauiense polítics during the old republíc period, considering the consolídation of the republíc as a fundamental data to mobilíze the classes and their fractions around their polítical and economic projects. Refudet, in this study, the interpretations belíeved to originate from relationships as determining of politic decisions. Quite contrary, the analysis of the power problematic during the old piauiense republic. Reston social classes, ruling class fractions and block, according to Nicos Poulantzas. This author claims that one fraction class becomes hegemonic as long as its more substantive economic interests are answered satisfactorily. This boarding permits the analysis of polítical perfomace of different class fractions of the rulíng class into rulíng block. In the piauiense case, during the period studied, is asserted that there are two dominant class fractions-the great landowners and the great merchants-who fight for hegemony. This dispute reveals the situation: the great landowners, the first to be hegemonic loose to the great merchants.
