RESUMO

In cinema, the images of food are synesthesic associations, they are memories of persons, smells, tastes, gestures, habits... Food is not a vital need, survival; the spectacle is artificial and representative. In Rolland Joffé s film "Vatel - a banquet for the king" there is a configuration of such images during Louis XIV s absolutist reign where apparatus an sumptuous sceneries in a baroque theatrical structure are added to the valorization of well serving at the table. Photography appears in the film in its memories of painting and still natures of 16tl1 and 17tl1 centuries with it hermetic and symbolic languages. These productions are today photographic productions that simulate court and gastronomy to the bougeois consumption. They are a show deprived of its symbolic and atisct dimension and covered of commercial breeze
